Villagers Suffer as Drinking Water Scheme Near Thuckalay Remains Inoperative Five Years After Foundation Stone – TNSPI Complaint

தக்கலை அருகே 5 ஆண்டுகளாக செயல்படாமல் உள்ள குடிநீர் திட்டம்

Residents of Ainthu Pulimootu village under Nullivilai Panchayat in Thuckalay Union, Kanyakumari district, are facing severe hardship without drinking water. Considering their needs, the government decided to construct a borewell in the area. It was expected that supplying drinking water through it would help address the water shortage in the area.

Accordingly, during the 2020-21 financial year, a borewell was constructed at a cost of Rs. 2 lakh under the 15th Central Finance Commission grant in an area near the Narayanasamy Nizhal Thangal. After the foundation stone was laid and the specified borewell was constructed, the top of the site was closed and a small pillar was erected to identify the location.

It was planned to pump water from the specified borewell to a nearby overhead drinking water tank and distribute it to the villagers. However, even five years after the foundation stone was laid, the drinking water scheme has not been implemented, and only the foundation marker remains as a display piece. As a result, government money has been wasted and villagers have been unable to benefit from the scheme.

If this scheme, which was buried after its foundation stone was laid, is revived, the villagers would benefit greatly. The people of this area are currently suffering severely due to drinking water scarcity, and implementing the specified drinking water scheme would permanently resolve their water problem. Therefore, Samuga Pothunala Iyakkam (TNSPI) has urged that the stalled and unimplemented drinking water scheme be completed in this area.

In this connection, under the leadership of General Secretary A.S. Shankarapandian, Kumari Division Secretary M. Alex Moses, Kumari District Coordinator P. Chandra, Kumari-Central District Vice-President S. Jesuraj, Thuckalay Union Farmers’ Wing Secretary A. Ganapathy, office-bearers D. Antony Arul, A. Ramachandran, R. Eugene and other office-bearers met the Kanyakumari District Collector and submitted a petition containing their demands.
