Human Waste Found in Government School Drinking Water Tank Near Dindigul – TNSPI Condemns

திண்டுக்கல் அருகே அரசு பள்ளி குடிநீர் தொட்டியில் மனிதக்கழிவு கலந்ததாக புகார்

Around 300 students are studying at a government school in the Vedasandur area near Ayyalur in Dindigul district. When it was discovered that human waste had been mixed into the drinking water tank on the terrace of the school, an inspection of the area also revealed that anti-social elements had left a warning note referring to it. Following a complaint lodged by the school administration, Vadamadurai police are investigating. Such an incident is deeply shocking. We strongly condemn this incident.

Similar incidents in the past have created social tension. In particular, in December 2022, human waste was mixed into an overhead drinking water tank in an area inhabited by people belonging to a particular section at Vengaivayal in Pudukkottai district. The issue came to public attention after residents of the area were affected. It became a major controversy touching upon the issue of untouchability.

In October 2025, human waste was found mixed into a newly constructed overhead drinking water tank at Amachiyapuram near Sholavandan in Madurai district. Similar incidents have occurred in some areas including Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur. Continuing this pattern, miscreants have acted in Dindigul district in a manner that disrupts social peace. This creates not only health impacts but also several problems including disruption of social unity, psychological impacts and caste discrimination.

This has impacts across several layers of society, and every time affected people drink water, the thought that they are drinking contaminated drinking water causes long-term mental stress and a sense of humiliation. As they feel that their area is being demeaned, people face various forms of pressure.

The narrow-minded and perverse actions of a few affect society as a whole. Social unity and social justice can be considered secure only by preventing such acts from recurring. It is essential that stringent action be taken against those who engage in such barbaric acts in a civilised society. The actual perpetrators involved in the Ayyalur incident should be identified and arrested under the Goondas Act, and the government should take appropriate action to prevent any such incident from recurring.
